What is bankroll management?
The discipline of sizing every bet as a small, consistent share of a dedicated bankroll โ the single habit that separates survivors from blowups.
Bankroll management is the practice of setting aside a dedicated sum for betting and staking each wager as a small, consistent fraction of it โ typically 1โ2% per bet. Its purpose is survival: even a real edge comes with losing streaks, and betting too large lets normal variance wipe you out before the edge can pay off. Disciplined, flat-percentage staking is what keeps a bettor in the game long enough for skill, if any, to show.
Losing streaks are guaranteed even for winning bettors. Stake 20% a bet and a normal cold run ends you; stake 1โ2% and the same streak is a survivable dip. This is why we log every pick at a flat one unit: over 431 settled picks the record (+45.43u) reflects the edge, or lack of it, without staking tricks masking the swings.
Keep a separate bankroll you can afford to lose; set one unit at 1โ2% of it; bet the same size regardless of how confident you feel; and don't chase losses by sizing up. Advanced bettors use fractional Kelly to scale by edge, but that only helps once you've proven an edge โ which requires the honest, flat-staked record bankroll discipline makes possible.
What is bankroll management? It is setting aside a dedicated betting fund and staking each bet as a small, consistent share of it โ usually 1โ2%. The goal is to survive inevitable losing streaks without going broke.
How much of my bankroll should I bet per game? Most disciplined bettors risk 1โ2% of their bankroll per bet and keep it flat. Larger stakes let ordinary variance ruin you before any edge can pay off.
Why does flat staking matter?Flat staking keeps a record honest โ it can't be padded by betting more on winners โ and it caps the damage of cold streaks. Signal Labs logs every pick at a flat one unit for exactly these reasons.
